When you look at the breakout of people and corporate creation think/thank Disney.  The duration was changed, with Disney being a very large contributor/consultant to the terms, and the corporation became a major creator.  Think of The Mouse.  It's term was just about to let The Mouse go into public domain when the rules got changed.  Imagine that.
